To all brothers and sisters of the Franciscan Family
To all brothers and sisters of the
Secular Franciscan Order and Franciscan Youth 

May the Lord give you peace! 

     With this greeting from our brother St. Francis, we address this letter to all the brothers and sisters of the great Franciscan Family, and especially to all the brothers and sisters of the Secular Franciscan Order and Franciscan Youth.  

We are writing to you during these difficult times when our country has been touched by a natural phenomenon which has tragic impacts on our brothers and sisters in the south.  This area of our country, one of the eight regions that are part of Peru’s SFO National Fraternity, has been devastated.  Its population, divided among provinces, districts and small towns, includes hundreds of Secular Franciscans and members of the Franciscan Youth, many of whom have suffered the devastating effects of this disaster.  

     Dear brothers and sisters:  today, more than ever, the Lord invites us to be close to these brothers and sisters who are suffering, sharing with them the message of the Beatitudes.  This message constitutes an entire life project for all Christians and, in a very special way, for all Franciscans.  Also, today, we remember the words of our Holy Patroness St. Elizabeth of Hungary, during the 800th centenary of her birth: “Give the Lord what you have with joy and happiness”.  In response to all of these words, we invite you to listen to your heart and to respond generously to these brothers and sisters.  Let them experience the closeness of our fraternity so that they may be reassured in their faith and hope.

 The SFO National Council of Peru will carefully distribute the funds received to meet the needs of the brothers and sisters from the SFO and Franciscan Youth from the affected area.
